CheckFree Bill Pay FAQs

About our new CheckFree® Bill Pay service

Pacific Trust Bank switched service providers to CheckFree® – the most capable and widely used bill payment and presentment system in America.

Setting up new bill payments is quick and easy, with simple to follow online instructions.

New HomeAccess Feature – "e-Bills"

In addition to having even more of your payments made electronically and delivered faster through CheckFree, you are now able to receive, view and pay many of your billing statements electronically as an e-Bill on HomeAccess. With this Green solution, paper is eliminated as you receive your bill statements online, instead of through the mail.

An e-Bill, or electronic bill, is like the paper statement you receive each month now, but in an electronic format for viewing online. You can see all of the same detail in an e-Bill that you can in a paper statement, and more – the due date, the bill detail, and you can pay the bill – all online with HomeAccess.

Additionally, you can set up HomeAccess so that each month you'll receive a reminder e-mail to login and review each new bill, or to tell you that your scheduled bill payments have been made.

Note: Please ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account for all of your scheduled bill payments.

CheckFree will make all of your payments as scheduled and will send an ACH transaction electronically to the Bank to withdraw the funds from your account. If at that time you have insufficient funds, our current NSF fees will be charged against your account.

Avoid Overdrafts

You can avoid NSF fees by frequently monitoring your account balance and activity online through HomeAccess. The best safeguard against NSF charges is to have your checking account linked to one or more of your other Pacific Trust deposit accounts or to a Pacific Trust Bank overdraft protection line of credit.

Please come in to one of our offices or call us to set up overdraft protection for your checking account.

Pacific Trust Bank is sure that you will be pleased with the improved service and added benefits of our enhanced CheckFree bill payment and presentment system. If you have any questions in this regard, please call us at (877) 441-BANK.

Bill Payment System CheckFree Conversion FAQs:

Why aren't all of my accounts showing in Bill Pay?
Only those accounts of yours which had active bill payments were transferred to Checkfree. You may add another account by going to the "My Accounts" page in CheckFree.

What if I want to pay from a different account than currently shown?
When making a payment, you need to select the account you want to pay from—choose from the drop down "pay from” list. If it is defaulting to another account and you do not change it, this is the account the payment will be made from.

Why did some of my old bill pay vendors not convert over to Checkfree?
If there was no activity in the last 12 months on a bill pay record, it was not converted. We only converted bill pays that have had activity in the last 12 months.

Why doesn’t my last payment date show?
No payment history was converted. It will only show payment history that has occurred on the new CheckFree system. You can view your account transaction history on HomeAccess or call our phone center for information on your last payment.

Why are all my bills setup with the category of automobile loan?
Before there was no category assigned. We did not convert them to automobile loan - that is just the first entry in the drop down list that is the default. You may change the category name as desired.

Why did one of my bill pays convert with my last name as the account number?
When we went to convert the data, there were a lot of bill pay vendors with no account number. This is a mandatory field. So instead of rejecting all those bill pay records, we converted them with initial and last name in the account number field.

Why did some of the vendors I deleted still show up?
All recently deleted vendors were converted.

I want my payment to go today, why can’t I submit it for today. It will only submit for Monday?
A major change with CheckFree bill pay is that the date of the payment is no longer a “submit date”. It is the actual “payment date”. So if it says your payment date is Monday, then your payment will be made on Monday.

Why do I have savings account numbers in my “Pay From” drop down and in “my accounts”?
In HomeAccess, if you ever had a scheduled account to account transfer, the system actually stored the record as a bill pay record. In the conversion, that information was mistakenly transferred over. We are in the process of identifying all these accounts and deleting them from Checkfree only. Please go to the My Accounts page, and delete any savings accounts from Checkfree. Any payments that you attempt to make from a savings accounts will be rejected. FYI - This does not affect account transfers performed within HomeAccess.
